ONEONTA, N.Y. - The Delhi Women's Volleyball team took a short trip to take on non-conference foe Hartwick, ultimately coming up short in four sets.
First Set
The Broncos entered the first set coming off a long trip to Maine and it showed allowing the Hawks to get out to a comfortable 8-3 lead. The Broncos were never able to get themselves within arm's reach of the Hawks, dropping the first set 25-9.
Second Set
The Broncos would be released from the stable in the second set, working hard to earn every point they can get. They would find themselves in a big hole down five points, but would fight their way back into this set, eventually tying it at 19 behind a service ace from junior Noelle Placanica, and then taking the lead at 20 after a Hawks attacking error. Hartwick would then earn back-to-back points before first year Skyler Furtado would put a stop to their momentum tallying a kill to bring the deficit down to one. The hawks would add another point onto the board, but the broncos wouldn't flinch, recording four straight points off of two kills from junior Kayla Nuss and two Hartwick attacking errors to take the set 25-23.
Third Set
Delhi would continue that momentum into the third set jumping out to a quick 3-2 lead before the hawks would earn 4 straight points of their own to take the lead 6-3 and never look back. The Hawks would go on to win the set 25-13, holding off a late bronco push.
Fourth Set
The Broncos would enter the set looking to tie things up at two sets a piece, but the Hawks had other plans jumping out to a big lead and never giving the Broncos a chance to take the lead, winning the fourth and final set.
For the Broncos, Kayla Nuss had a team high 11 kills while Skyler Furtado had six kills of her own. Senior Laurel Poston added 20 assists to go along with five digs, while first year Brooke Becenti and Noelle Placanica recorded five digs as well to match a team high. Shelby Swartz led the offensive for the Hawks tallying 14 kills while Malia Dake and Braelyn Hornick earned eight and six digs respectively.
The Delhi Broncos Women's Volleyball team will be back in action this weekend Oct. 18th, where the Broncos will be hosting their third Tri-Match of the season. They will face NAC conference opponent UMPI at 11:00am and then they take on Morrisville at 3:00pm.
