Men's Soccer Captures First NAC Championship in Double Overtime, Sets Program Record for Unbeaten Streak

WATERVILLE, Maine - For the second consecutive year The Delhi Broncos Men's Soccer team faced Thomas in the conference championship, this time upsetting the 1-seeded Terriers 3-2 in double overtime to capture their first NAC Championship since joining the conference for the 2019-20 season. The win sets a program record for an unbeaten streak with 14, a stretch that began after falling to Thomas all the way back on September 13th.

After a scoreless first half it was the Broncos who struck first in the second, with Umaru Conteh being fed through by an incisive Aidan Guaghan pass just 28 seconds into the second half. In the 68th minute the Terriers answered with Tristan Kjartansson finding Daud Abdi on a Thomas set piece, leveling the score at one all. Less than five minutes later the Terriers would find the net again, as Cody Robinson gave the home squad their first lead of the game.

Staring down the end of their season the Broncos managed to find an equalizer, with Conteh scoring his second of the game following a commotion in front of the net in the 87th minute. Immediately after Conteh was once again freed by a through ball, but was taken out by Brynjar Johannsson in a play that resulted in a red card but kept the game alive for the Terriers.

After a scoreless first overtime Aidan Guaghan delivered following an excellent defensive play and ball into the box by Ryan Friar, converting the game winner for Delhi in double overtime.

After the game Conteh was recognized as the NAC Tournament MVP, recording three goals and two assists in postseason play. With the win the Broncos recieve an automatic bid for the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Tournament, and will find out who they are playing during the selection show on Monday, Nov. 10th at 11:30 a.m.
