Men's Soccer Fall to Utica 3-1 in Home Opener

DELHI, N.Y. - The Delhi Broncos Men's Soccer team played the first contest of the year at Neil Riddell Field Sunday, Aug. 31st, losing to Utica 3-1.

It was the Broncos who struck first when junior Aidan Gaughan found nylon in the 31st minute, coming off an assist from senior Matt Serrao. The lead would be short lived, as a penalty kick resulting from a handball would be converted by Utica's Noah Hassberg. The teams would enter the half tied, 1-1.

The second half would be all Pioneers from the jump, with Noah Scranton giving Utica the lead at the 48:29 mark and Henry Schweitzer extending it less than four minutes later. Despite a couple of opportunities Delhi was unable to answer and drop to 0-2 on the season and Utica improves to 1-1.

The Broncos hit the field again Wednesday, Sept. 3rd for a non-conference matchup at Mount Saint Mary.
