DELHI, N.Y. - The Delhi Broncos Men's Soccer team rolled to a 7-0 victory to begin their postseason campaign on Wednesday, defeating Lesley in the first round of the NAC Men's Soccer Tournament.
The first half looked much like their regular season matchup where the two sides worked to a draw, with Sean Szczotka scoring the only goal in the frame to give Delhi a 1-0 lead. Heading into the break the Broncos had a slight edge on shots, registering 10 to Lesley's six, but it would be a tale of two halves for the host squad.
10 minutes into the second half the wave of Delhi goals started with Lawrence Robinson finding the back of the net, before Aidan Gaughan and Umaru Conteh scored back to back goals in 1:05 of game time. Just when you thought the Bronco attack had settled down Cristian Navarro, Liam Molloy, and Ahmadou Diallo rattled off three goals in three minutes to put an emphatic end to the night.
Robert Mercilliot pitched in three assists in the effort, with Conteh and Gaughan adding two a piece and Diallo, Matt Serrao, and Jared Fernandez each tallying one in the win. Salvatore Meloni turned in another clean sheet for the Broncos, turning away all four shots he faced.
With the win the Broncos advance to the NAC Men's Soccer Semi-Final, where they will travel to 2-seeded Husson Saturday, November 1st. The Broncos came away with a 2-0 victory when these teams met at Neil Riddell Field for a conference match during the regular season.
