SUNY Delhi traveled to the Devid Hemery Valentine Invitational this weekend in Broston where they had the opportunity to run against the best athletes from all around the country in a massive meet that brings in teams at all levels of collegiate competition as well as professional athletes. The Broncos once again showed they are capable of running on every stage with numerous school records and some top finishes.
The biggest highlight came from sophomore Shaesha Johnson. After running a season best in the 60 meter dash invitational prelims, Johnson posted a huge lifetime best of 7.57 seconds to place second overall in the event. Johnson's time shatters her own school record set last year and ranks her fourth in all of NCAA III at the time. Johnson then went on to run theprograms second fastest 200 meter dash with a time of 25.07 to cap off a great weekend.
Another record that fell was the 200 meter dash. In that same event where Johnson ran the second fastest time in program history, teammate Miranda Cole posted the top time with a new program record of 24.83 seconds. That shatters her own previous school record as well.
In keeping with the theme of people breaking their own records, a pair of distance runners also took down their previous marks. Sophomore Amanda Intrieri ran 2:13.52 to break the record she set a few weeks ago at Cornell University. Teammate Charlotte Warner also took down her 3,000 meter record, posting a finishing time of 10:05.81, taking another 20 seconds off the mark she set earlier this season.
Leading they way for the men were Marvin Markland who ran a new lifetime best in the 200 meters at 21.89, Dale Lambert who ran a new indoor lifetime best of 50.48 in the 400 meter dash.
The team will now head to Cornell University for a tune up meet heading into the SUNYAC Championships.
