Women's Soccer Earns Hard-Fought Victory at Home Against Morrisville

DELHI, N.Y. - The Delhi Broncos Women's Soccer team beat Morrisville Thursday, Sept. 18th in a back-and-forth affair at Neil Riddell Field.

The Broncos opened the scoring early when Kailey Leach managed to head the ball past the Mustangs' keeper off of an Ava Battista free kick in the seventh minute. Both teams would then settle in, with half an hour of scoreless soccer played before Haylie Buysse netted the equalizer for the Mustangs.

It would be Delhi who again opened the scoring in the second half as first-year Melina Canales scored her first collegiate goal, with Junior Jacey Nieckarz tallying an assist on the play. This time the response from Morrisville was near instant, as Kylee Urquhart leveled the score a mere 1:26 later. Both sides had scoring chances down the stretch, with the Mustangs' goalie Cheyenne Thomas stopping the Broncos from converting on a penalty kick, but it would be Delhi who scored the game-winner on a long free kick goal by Battista with exactly three minutes to play.

The Broncos kick off a five-game road stretch Tuesday, Sept. 23rd at Hilbert.
