DELHI, N.Y. - The Delhi Broncos Women's Soccer team cruised to a 3-1 victory over SUNY Poly Saturday, Sept. 6th, their first win of the year and the first under first-year head coach Samantha Schmidt.
It was all Broncos from the jump as Camelia Cruz scored her first goal of the season to give Delhi the lead in the seventh, and Madison Thorbourne who extended it in the 23rd minute. Kara Mertz looked to get the Wildcats going with a goal in the 33rd minute, but they were unable to generate another score. First-year Callisthene Vonderweidt added an insurance goal for the Broncos, the first of her collegiate career.
Kailey Leach notched an assist for the Broncos, and goalkeeper and NAC Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week Morgan Krouse turned away three of the four shots she faced.
The Broncos are back in action at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6th in a non-conference matchup against Schmidt's alma mater, Russell Sage.
