Softball Closes Out Regular Season With Sweep of VTSU Johnson

JOHNSON, Vt. — The SUNY Delhi softball team completed a perfect North Atlantic Conference weekend on Sunday, sweeping a doubleheader at Vermont State Johnson by scores of 7-5 and 13-1. Combined with Saturday's sweep at VTSU Lyndon, the Broncos outscored conference opponents 56-7 across four games. 

Game One: SUNY Delhi 7, VTSU Johnson 5 

Alethea Ferrara went the distance in the circle, scattering eight hits over seven innings while striking out five to pick up the win. Delhi got the offense going behind a balanced effort, with Adrienne Neff, Ferrara, and Julian Ponce each driving in a run, and Ferrara collecting two hits including a double. Samantha Martin went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, while Carly Bernard, Angelina Dickel, and Ponce each added a hit. Ferrara, Bernard, and Dickel all added doubles. Stephanie Huckabee drew three walks, scored twice, and stole a base. Hannah Corvino took the loss for Johnson despite a 4-for-4 day from Audrey Tembreull at the top of the order. 

Game Two: SUNY Delhi 13, VTSU Johnson 1 (5 innings) 

Delhi blew the nightcap open early, jumping on Corvino for nine runs in the second inning to put the contest out of reach. Ayla Ramic delivered the inning's biggest blow with a three-RBI double, and Cayla Moroni and Riley Martin each added two-RBI hits. Adrienne Neff went 3-for-3 with two RBI, while Ramic finished 3-for-3 with three RBI and Dickel added a 2-for-2 day with three RBI. Dickel also pitched four strong innings, allowing one earned run on four hits with two strikeouts to pick up her second win of the weekend. Mikayla Wright closed out the run-rule victory with a clean inning of relief. 

Delhi wraps up regular season play 14-19 overall and 7-7 in conference play with the sweep, earning the 5-seed in the North Atlantic Conference Playoffs. They will take on 4th-seeded UMaine-Farmington on Thursday, kicking off the tournament at 10 a.m.
