ONEONTA, N.Y. — The SUNY Delhi softball team put together its most complete offensive day of the season on Friday, defeating Lesley 17-1 in four innings before taking game two 14-3. Game two was called early after a Lesley player sustained an injury and the visitors were unable to field a replacement.
Game One: SUNY Delhi 17, Lesley 1 (4 innings)
Delhi's bats never slowed down, as the Broncos scored in every inning on the way to the run-rule victory. After plating two in the first, Delhi broke the game open with a seven-run second inning highlighted by an Angelina Dickel home run and a Grace Sperry RBI groundout. The Broncos added five more in the third, including a Carly Bernard RBI single and an Ayla Ramic two-RBI single to left center. Samantha Martin capped the scoring in the fourth with a two-RBI single through the right side to make it 17-1. Adrienne Neff also drove in a run in the fourth. Madison Herbert took the loss for Lesley. Multiple Broncos got into the scoring column across a balanced offensive effort.
Game Two: SUNY Delhi 14, Lesley 3
Game two ended prematurely due to a Lesley injury, but the Broncos had already put their stamp on it. Samantha Martin opened the scoring with an RBI double to left field to bring home Adrienne Neff, and Stephanie Huckabee followed with an RBI double to left center to make it 2-0. Carolina Watson came home on an error, and Kara Fitch singled up the middle to score Watson to cap a four-run first. Delhi erupted for ten runs in the bottom of the second, as Samantha Martin tripled to right center to plate two more, Huckabee singled up the middle for another run, and a combination of hits, walks, and Lesley miscues turned the inning into a full lineup turn. Martin's all-around performance stood out across both ends of the doubleheader, and Fitch, Neff, and Amadon each contributed runs to keep the lineup moving.
Delhi moves to 8-15 overall and 4-5 in conference play, and returns to action Monday at Morrisville.
