DELHI, N.Y. — The SUNY Delhi softball team split a North Atlantic Conference doubleheader against UMaine-Presque Isle on Friday at Robert S. Brown Field, falling 18-0 in five innings in game one before bouncing back with an 8-0 shutout win in the nightcap. Between games, the program recognized senior Riley Martin, along with Alethea Ferrara and Carly Bernard, who are completing their two-year degrees and moving on from the Broncos.
Game One: UMaine-Presque Isle 18, SUNY Delhi 0 (5 innings)
UMPI broke the game open with a 14-run fourth inning to put the contest out of reach. Gracelyn Walsh finished 3-for-5 with three RBI for the Owls, while Abby Doughty added three hits and four RBI. Hailey Saylor went the distance for UMPI, scattering four hits and striking out four over five innings to pick up the win. Adrienne Neff, Stephanie Huckabee, Grace Sperry, and Samantha Martin each collected a hit for Delhi. Alethea Ferrara took the loss across 3.1 innings.
Game Two: SUNY Delhi 8, UMaine-Presque Isle 0 (6 innings)
Angelina Dickel was dominant in the circle and at the plate in the nightcap, tossing a complete-game shutout while going 3-for-3 with two doubles, a triple, and an RBI. Dickel scattered five hits over six innings, walking two and striking out two to even her record at 4-7. Delhi got on the board in the first when Stephanie Huckabee doubled to left field and came around to score on a Riley Martin RBI single up the middle. The Broncos added two unearned runs in the third and another in the fourth on Dickel's RBI triple that scored Taylor Myers, who had doubled to lead off the inning. Delhi blew the game open with a four-run sixth, as Cayla Moroni and Stephanie Huckabee both stole bases ahead of run-scoring plays, and Carolina Watson's RBI single and a wild pitch capped the scoring. Huckabee finished 3-for-3 with three runs scored, while Watson went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Myers added a double.
Delhi moves to 10-19 on the season and returns to action Wednesday at Morrisville.
