Broncos' Season Ends in NAC Semifinal Loss to Husson

CASTINE, Maine — The SUNY Delhi men's lacrosse team's season came to an end Saturday afternoon, falling 19-13 to 2nd-seeded Husson in the North Atlantic Conference semifinals at Maine Maritime Academy's Ritchie Field. Delhi, the No. 4 seed, hung with the Eagles for two quarters but couldn't match Husson's third-quarter burst.

The Broncos opened the game in a hole, falling behind 2-0 inside the first two minutes before settling in. Kashieve Francis got Delhi on the board with 8:33 left in the first on a feed from Jesse Hagen, and Jagger Beachak tied it a minute later off a Brent Decoeur assist. Kyle Moore's unassisted goal with 48 seconds left in the opening period sent the teams to the second quarter knotted at 3-3.

Delhi controlled the early portion of the second, with Beachak and Chris Lazazzaro scoring on back-to-back possessions to put the Broncos up 5-3. Husson responded with four straight to take a 7-5 lead, but Beachak and Moore answered to tie it at 7-7 before a Kiernan Field goal with seven seconds left in the half gave the Eagles an 8-7 advantage at the break.

The third quarter belonged to Husson. After Shane VonKampen scored back-to-back goals to give Delhi a 9-8 lead, the Eagles ripped off seven consecutive goals to blow the game open. Dominic Hollenkamp scored three times during the run and Field added another, with Husson taking a 15-9 lead before VonKampen's third goal of the day cut the deficit to 15-10 entering the fourth.

Delhi clawed back to within three at 16-13 in the fourth on goals from Hagen, Dylan Csanko, and Lazazzaro, but Husson scored three of the final four to put the game away. Field finished with six goals to lead Husson, while Hollenkamp added five. Gabe Robinson chipped in three.

For Delhi, VonKampen and Beachak each scored three times, while Moore and Lazazzaro added two apiece. Csanko won 10 of 21 faceoffs, and Jayden Messina made 14 saves in goal. The Broncos finish the season at 6-9 overall.
