DELHI , N.Y. — SUNY Delhi trailed by just one goal heading into the fourth quarter but couldn't hold off Montclair State on Monday, dropping a 13-9 decision on home turf.
Delhi held a 3-1 lead through the first quarter, with Anthony McLaughlin scoring twice and Jesse Hagen adding another before Montclair rattled off four consecutive goals in the second to take a 6-5 edge at halftime. The Broncos fought back to tie the game twice in the third, with Kyle Moore knotting it at 6-6 and Jagger Beachak at 8-8, but Montclair closed the period on a 2-0 run and outscored Delhi 3-1 in the fourth to seal it.
McLaughlin led Delhi with three goals. Beachak and Moore each contributed multi-point performances, while Colton Feinberg, Chris Lazazzaro, and Hagen each scored once. Goalkeeper Jayden Messina made 22 saves as the Broncos were outshot 35-16 on goal.
The face-off battle proved costly, as Montclair's Jacob Holicki won 21 of 26 draws and controlled possession for much of the afternoon.
Delhi falls to 3-6 overall and 0-2 in conference play. The Broncos return to action Wednesday, hosting MCLA at 4:00 p.m.
