Cobleskill, NY - The SUNY Delhi softball team eagerly returned to action following a 20-day span of no contests, as they kicked off conference play against the Fighting Tigers of Cobleskill.
In game one, Cobleskill would cause some havoc on the base path in the bottom of the second inning. Aliyah Nesser would take third on a stolen base and advance home on an errant throw to score the game's opening run. Senior Danielle Seymour would keep the Broncos in the game, allowing no earned runs through the first four innings of play with three strikeouts. The Tigers would finally break through on Seymour in the bottom of the fifth inning, adding two more runs behind RBIs from Gabriella Wendelken and Jenna Smyczynski. While the Broncos would find themselves with runners in scoring position in several innings, starting pitcher Gabriella Wendelken would escape unscathed. In the end, Cobleskill would capture the 4-0 victory as Wendelken would go on to pitch a complete game shutout, totaling 112 pitches on the day. Delhi's top contributors included multi-hit performances from senior Sidney Cooper and sophomore Angelina Dickel.
In game two, the Tigers would open up with a bang, as Aliyah Nesser came to the plate with the bases loaded. Nesser would send one over the fence in center field to give the Tigers an early 4-0 lead. Delhi would plate their first run of the day in the top of the fourth inning as sophomore Carolina Watson would single to right scoring Angelina Dickel. Cobleskill would answer in a big way in the bottom half of the inning stringing together six hits scoring six runs to put the game out of reach. Nesser would be the catalyst once again, launching her second home run of the game. The Tigers would cruise to an 11-1 victory improving to 2-0 in conference play.
The Broncos fall to 6-10, 0-2 in conference play and will be back in action tomorrow for a rematch doubleheader at home against Cobleskill.
